Sandy Foster, Trustee

Sandy Foster, Chairman

Sandy has a civil engineering background. Sandy has a strong proven record of business planning, financial modelling, market research and project planning in the area of property development. His specific focus has been affordable and social housing, retirement villages and aged care accommodation. Sandy is well respected in the community housing sector having been directly involved in the delivery of new supply over a number of years.

Kate Armstrong, Trustee

Kate has local and international experience both as a lawyer, banker and regulatory advisor. Kate has demonstrated strong legal and financial expertise with the commercial acumen required to run large divisions and has a strong reputation for “getting things done”, aligning communication, people, culture and resources to ensure delivery on time and on budget.

To ensure she understands her community’s needs, Kate also volunteers her time to two not for profit organisations providing financial and general advice and assistance.

Sarah Sinclair, Trustee

Sarah is a Partner in the law firm MinterEllisonRuddWatts. Sarah is a highly-regarded construction and infrastructure specialist and brings extensive experience acting for both Government and private sector clients in large-scale, complex infrastructure projects.

Sarah is known for providing commercially pragmatic, strategic advice on infrastructure funding models, procurement strategies and contracting structures.

Tony Lanigan

Tony Lanigan, Trustee

Tony is a Civil Engineer and holds Directorships in several private companies and NGOs.

‘Affordable housing is central to Kiwi society and remains stitched into the social aspirations of our culture. Without the solid foundation of a home, low-income families are forever in survival mode and less able to make a wider contribution to their communities’.

Previous roles include Director of Infrastructure Auckland 1999 – 2004, Chancellor of Auckland University of Technology 1996 – 2001, where he was also a founding Trustee 1998 – 2001.

David Kennedy, Trustee

David is an experienced Director and Chief Executive.  He has held CEO roles with Ngai Tahu Property, The Eden Park Trust and St Lukes Group/Westfield NZ.  David has also held senior roles with SKYCITY Entertainment Group. He now concentrates on board directorships and some advisory consulting work. David has significant experience in the property and building sectors, and has also worked in the entertainment sector.

David is on the board of Eke Panuku Auckland and Naylor Love.

Judy Whiteman, Trustee

Judy has many years’ experience in senior management and executive positions in the global financial services industry, both in New Zealand and abroad. She has been involved for over 30 years in the not-for-profit sector as a volunteer, board member and consultant. Judy is also an Associate of the Centre for Social Impact.

Judy is currently an Independent Director with the Bank of India (New Zealand) Ltd. Previous governance roles include Presbyterian Support Northern,Te Waipuna Puawai and ANZ Staff Superannuation (Australia) Ltd (Director).

Mel Hewitson, Trustee

Mel brings over 35 years’ experience in financial services, risk, regulation and governance, including investment, ESG and climate governance. She has diverse board experience and currently is an Independent Director of Fidelity Life Assurance, Simplicity NZ, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Whai Maia and Domain Name Commission.

Mel is a Trustee of Foundation North, chairs the Waikato-Tainui Nominating Committee for its Group Investment Committee and is an Independent Member of the Investment Committee of Findex Advice Services NZ.

Orchid Atimalala, Trustee

Orchid is a trained Urban Planner (University of Auckland) of some close to 30 years’ experience in Aotearoa NZ, Australia and Samoa. Throughout her professional career, she has accrued a passion for and a strong set of skills in strategic planning, policy analysis, RMA/Public Works Act/Local Government Act application, transformational community development, project management and relationship management.

Of American Samoan heritage and NZ citizenship, Orchid’s experience of nearly years has been broad – in local (district and region) and central government, private consultancy and in her own consultancy. Orchid is currently Principal Advisor within the Ministry of Education (a national role based in Auckland, in the Property & Infrastructure Delivery Team), and is engaged at the political, community and network levels. Orchid is also a trusted source (Subject Matter Expert) of Resource Management Act and related estate legislation framework for achieving the best urban and natural environments planning outcomes (particularly in relation to growth) within the Ministry.

Maxine Shortland, Trustee

Maxine (Ngati Hine, Ngapuhi, Ngati Wai, Ngati Porou) has over 25 years’ governance and executive management experience. She is currently Chair, NZ Public Health Association as well as a Director of Waitangi Ltd, Netball NZ and a Trustee of Foundation North.
